THE PHILIPPINES captured two gold medals courtesy of Josie Malacad and the 4x400 meters relay team in the Ho Chi Minh Invitational Track and Field Championships in Vietnam.
Malacad took the gold in the 400m hurdles with a time of one minute, 2.3 seconds. Local hope Nguyen Thi Thuy settled for the silver in 1:03.57 while compatriot Nguyen Thi Huynh finished third in 1:07.79.
Malacad fell a fraction of a second short of winning a second gold, as she took the silver in the 400m dash with a time of 57.04 seconds. Nguyen Thi Thuy took the gold with a 56.45-second clocking.
In other results, Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist Katherine Santos grabbed the silver medal in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.05 meters, only .04 meters short of the gold won by a Malaysian bet.
The Philippines won the bronze in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.68 seconds. Indonesia (47.16) and Ho Chi Minh (48.61) captured the gold and silver, respectively.
