EJ OBIENA finished second in his first competition of 2025, the International Jump Meeting in Cottbus, Germany.
Obiena cleared 5.65 meters to place second to open his indoor season, as Sam Kendricks of the United States topped the competition with 5.75 meters.
It was Obiena’s first meet since prematurely ending his 2024 season last August when he sustained a stress fracture in his spine.
Obiena had pain in his back five months ago during a Wanda Diamond League Cilasia competition where he placed fifth, and a CAT scan later confirmed the injury would force him out of the 2024 season.

Prior to the Diamond League meet, Obiena was coming off a fourth-place finish in the Paris Olympics, missing out the bronze medal against Emmanouil Karalis of Greece.
