TAGUM City, Davao - Jearolan Omandac played before his home crowd at the Rotary Park Gym here on Friday, but he did so while representing another city.

Still, Omandac, who moved to Cebu early this year to suit up for University of Visayas, received a warm welcome from his family members, friends and neighbors here.

The 6-feet-3 cager said it made him feel his team had a homecourt advantage, which helped them bag the gold medal in the 2016 Batang Pinoy 3x3 boys basketball.

“Masaya ako. May homecourt advantage kami,” he told SPIN.ph after his team edged Ateneo de Zamboanga, 17-15, in the thrilling finale at the packed venue.

“Sinasabi nga sakin ng mga taga dito, 'Iba ka talaga, galing mo na.’ Di naman ako inaasar," he added.

Omandac actually played the hero role during the final match, hitting the dagger three with 15 ticks left to put the Cebuanos on top for good. And the self-confessed James Yap fan shared he had no doubt soon as the ball left his hands.

"Natuwa ako kanina nung na-shoot ang three points. Marami nga akong mali nun sa laro e, (buti) nag-step up lang huli," said Omandac, who finished with four points.

But now that the annual conclave among the local government units is over, Omandac said he is focusing on improving his game, particularly his shooting and dribbling skills.

"Ine-enhance ko ngayon shooting at dribbling ko. Naghahanda na ako para maging three (small forward)," he said, adding he wants to become a PBA player someday.
