ANOTHER major sporting event had to be put off due to the imminent threat brought by typhoon Ruby.

The 38th edition of the National MILO Marathon Finals set Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena grounds will not push through as scheduled owing to the possible risk the strong typhoon may pose among participating runners.

Strategic Edge Inc., MILO Philippines’ public relations partner, made the advisory on the eve of the meet.

“We will update all our runners once we have further details on when the national finals will be held,” part of the statement read. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and thank you for your kind understanding.”

Ramil Cruz, the veteran reporter of Abante who is also a many-time 42-k finisher, said the postponement of the race could work either way for all the runners, especially those who are in contention for the men and women’s titles.

“Siyempre, nasira ang momentum nung mga yun dahil handing-handa na ang mga yan,” he said. “Pero pabor din naman yun doon sa mga naghahabol sa training.”

Aside from the centerpiece 42-k event, the MILO Marathon also offers 21-k, 10-k, 5-k, and 3-k races.

The National MILO Marathon Finals is the second main sporting meet to be called off due to typhoon Ruby, which is expected to make landfall on Saturday night in Eastern Samar.

The Petron Saturday Special of the PBA Philippine Cup pitting defending champion Purefoods against Barako Bull was earlier cancelled as Dipolog City is among the provinces directly on the path of typhoon Ruby.
