    Long jumper Santos wins silver in Asian Grand Prix

    KATHERINE Santos registered a leap of 6.17 meters and settled for the silver medal in the women’s long jump of the Asian Grand Prix opening leg in Bangkok.

    Santos, a bronze medalist in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia, finished runner-up after Uzbekistan’s Darya Rezmehenko registered 6.52 meters in Day One of the competitions Saturday as per the results posted on the Twitter account of the Asian Athletics Association.

    The Baguio-based Santos, perceived as the heir apparent to reigning long jump queen Marestela Torres, beat out Yuliva Tarasova of Kazakhstan, who clinched the bronze with a jump of 6.11 meters.
