THE Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa) has launched a project to encourage kids to do physical activities with the Milo National Kids’ Athletics Games online challenge.
The online event will begin the first of two phases on Nov. 27 and will run until Feb. 2021 where eight members of the national athletics team will demonstrate, through an instructional video, physical activities similar to their respective events such as running, jumping, and throwing that kids can do while at home.
The members of the national team who will take part in the videos are Christine Hallasco, Natalie Uy, Kristina Knott, Willie Morrison, Sarah Dequinan, Clinton Kingsley Bautista, Aries Toledo, and Melvin Calano.
The first of two waves of the online event is to create awareness and encourage the kids to take part in physical activities. The second wave is the application and contest proper in which kids will be challenged to do the eight exercises in one series, the video of which will be their entry in the contest.
Winners in the under-10, under-12, and under-15 each week will win P1,000 and Milo gift packs. The weekly winners will then meet in the finals on Feb. 26, 2021 in a live online competition offering P10,000, Milo gift pack and Milo trophy to the winner.
The weekly winners will also advance to the semifinals of Phase Two (Kids’ Athletics activities) on June 2021.
“It is really a measure of our Filipino ingenuity, creativity, and imagination in coming up and producing programs such as this. This is a tribute to the teamwork in Patafa and to Milo’s interest in youth development as part of our overall national development to sponsor and support kids athletics among other things that Milo is helping Patafa and Philippine sports,” said Patafa president Philip Ella Juico .
“The Milo National Kids’ Athletics Games online will be a useful tool for parents to inculcate the value of exercise among our kids during this school year,” Nestle Philippines-Milo assistant vice president Lester P. Castillo said. “With physical activity, children become better learners.”
Registration is ongoing online at philathletics.org.
