JACKSON Chirchir starred in yet another Kenyan domination in a local marathon, clocking two hours, 27 minutes and three seconds to rule the second leg of the Run United Philippines Marathon on Sunday.
Under clear skies, Chirchir dominated the 42-kilometer race that started at Bonifacio Global City and ended at the MOA grounds, with Douglas Pwitti a distant second in 2:34:27 and Philip Ronoh third at 2:48:38.
Over 12,000 runners participated in the event, 3,000 of which saw action in the marathon. Other race distances were 21K, 10K and 500-meter runs.
Rene Desuyo topped the men’s local division, clocking a 2:33:49 time, which was second best overall for the day.
Elkin John Quinto placed second in 2:44:25, while and Marlo Maglinao was third in 2:48:53.
In the women’s local division, Janette Agura secured the first place with 3:35:35, followed by Elijeran Jocelyn in 3:36:11, and Gella Mayang in 3:53:46.
In the half-marathon, Samuel Taurus Too ruled the men’s division with a time of 1:14;27, and Nhea Ann Barcena won the women’s title with a 1:29:21 time.
Spicing up the event was fun fitness activities such as Zumba and a performance by 2013 UAAP cheerdance champion National University.
