RAIN or Shine team co-owner Raymund Yu said seeing their team reach the PBA Governors Cup semifinals at the expense of Globalport was bittersweet.
“Oo nalungkot ako to see a friend agonize,” said Yu referring to Globalport team owner and good friend Mikee Romero after the Elasto Painters' 108-106 victory over the Batang Pier on Thursday night.
“Close na close namin si Mikee. Kaya kahit kami ayaw nga namin sana na sila ang makalaban this early sa playoffs. But that’s basketball,” added the youthful Asian Coatings franchise executive.
But Yu said things are only bound to get better from here for Romero's team, which has turned into a major force after a couple of major trades during its maiden season in the league.
“I can see a lot of potential in their team,” said Yu. “Tingin ko kaunting tiis lang, mas madaming pahihirapan ang Globalport. Kami lang nahirapan talaga kami sa kanila ngayon.”
Yu said it's only a matter of time before Globalport becomes a title contender in the pro league.
“Kumpleto na yung team ni Mikee. In fact, I can see our 2011 team in them. They already have the proper pieces, chemistry at kaunting hinog na lang,” Yu said.
“By next season, I think hinog na yan. They will surely become a contender."
