JANRY Ubas got a boost in his bid to claim a spot in the World Championships, capturing a gold medal in the men’s long jump of the Motonet Grand Prix Lappeenranta in Finland.

Ubas registered 7.86 meters to rule the World Athletics Continental Tour bronze event, two months after winning the gold in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association said Ubas can gain as many as 60 world ranking points with the win. Ubas is currently ranked No. 53 in the world with 1160 points.
Ubas is attempting to clinch a berth in the World Championships in Budapest from August 19 to 27 by earning points in the meets he will compete in Europe in the next few weeks.
Before the gold in Finland, Ubas placed seventh in the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok last week.
