EJ Obiena wrested the bronze medal in the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe in Europahalle, Karlsruhe, Germany on Monday, just days after winning the gold in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China.
Obiena cleared 5.70 meters just like Menno Vloom of Netherlands and Simen Guttormsmen of Norway, winning the bronze medal via countback to add to the first-ever Asian Indoor gold of his career won just two days earlier.

The Filipino pole vaulter said the podium finish made the whirlwind trip worth it.
“Definitely the toughest back to back I have ever done and hopefully would ever do,” said Obiena in a post on Facebook.
Obiena continues to be on a hot streak after the podium finish at the World Athletics Indoor Tour–A event. He followed that up by ruling the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in China with a jump of 5.70m.

“This was the final remaining Asian Championship gold that I haven’t got. I have won multiple SEA Games, Asian Games, Asian Championships, the one remaining was the Asian Indoors Championship,” wrote Obiena.
