EJ OBIENA won a gold in his first meet of 2024 by topping the Memorial Josip Gasparac in Osijek, Croatia.
Obiena registered 5.84 meters to beat Pedro Buaro of Portugal (5.73) and Olen Tray Oates of United States (5.61) in the indoor competition.
Obiena hit the 5.83m mark on his first try. He went for 5.93m but failed in all three attempts.
Still, it was an auspicious start to the year for Obiena, who is preparing for his campaign in the Paris Olympic Games.
Obiena is also gearing up for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March, but will compete first in the ISTAF Berlin on February 23.
