EJ Obiena bounced back from his poor performance in his previous meet by taking the title in 2023 ISTAF Berlin.

Obiena recorded 5.92 meters on his way to the gold, recovering from a 10th-place finish in Zurich days ago.

The Zurich meet was held a few days after Obiena got a silver medal in the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary where he hit 6.00 meters.

The Filipino pole vaulter captured the title with Sondre Guttormsen of Norway placing second with 5.82 followed by KC Lightfoot of United States with 5.82.

Obiena has been a regular in ISTAF Berlin, but it is the first time that he won the title.

“Finally, [ISTAF Indoor] would have his bigger brother, [ISTAF Berlin] trophy after three years,” said Obiena on his Facebook page.
