EJ Obiena is now at fifth in the world rankings following his second-place finish in the Paris leg of the Wanda Diamond League.

The 25-year-old Filipino pole vaulter has now accumulated 1361 points in the latest rankings issued by World Athletics, the international federation of the sport.

Obiena is behind world No. 1 Armand Duplantis of Sweden, Christopher Nilsen of the United States, Sam Kendricks of the United States, and Renaud Lavillenie of France.

Obiena was ranked sixth in the world when he competed in the Tokyo Olympics.

    “I may not meet the expectation of all, but I keep trying. Thank you for all the prayers and support. The journey continues and I am proud to carry the nation with me. Getting there,” wrote Obiena on his Facebook page.

    Obiena was fresh from a second-place performance in the Meeting de Paris in which he cleared 5.91 meters to shatter his own national record of 5.87 he set last July.

    The performance was only 0.1 meters behind Duplantis, the winner of the event.

    Obiena is set to compete in Belgium this weekend.
