    EJ Obiena bags silver in World Athletics Championships

    EJ Obiena earned silver by clearing 6.0 in the pole vault competition in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Sunday.

    The Filipino pole vaulter replicated his Asian record and personal best.

    World No. 1 Mondo Duplantis came up with a 6.10 vault to retain the title.

      Obiena clears 6.0 again

      Australia’s Kurtis Marschall and current world No. 2 Christopher Nilsen from USA shared the bronze as both men cleared 5.95 m. and missed the six-meter mark thrice.

      Obiena, currently ranked third in the world, cleared 6.0 in his second attempt.

      He was unable to clear his one shot at 6.05 m. and two attempts at 6.10 m.

        With the gold already sealed, Duplantis sought to smash his world record leap of 6.22 m. with three attempts at 6.23 m. but fell short.
