EJ OBIENA is gearing up for two world championships this year, making it to the major tournaments through his fine performance in the Orlen Cup 2022 in Poland.
With the 5.81-meter vault that earned him gold in Poland, Obiena also qualified for this year’s World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade from March 18 to 20 and the World Athletics Championships from July 15 to 24 in Eugene, Oregon.
The World Indoors has a 5.81-meter standard while the World Championships has a 5.80-meter standard.
EJ Obiena returns to the World Athletics Championships and will make his debut in the World Indoors.
It will Obiena’s second appearance in the World Championships after his debut in 2019 in Doha where he placed 15th. Obiena will compete in the World Indoors for the first time.
Obiena hit 5.81 meters recently on his way to capturing the Orlen Cup 2022 in Poland, his first title of the year.
“I have my share of adversity as everyone knows. But so does everyone else. The name of the game is to keep showing up and keep trying,” said Obiena, referring to the controversy he is embroiled with his mother federation Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.
Obiena will see action in Lievin, France on Thursday for the Meeting Hauts-De-France.
