EJ Obiena failed to qualify in the men's pole vault final of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Obiena finished in joint 18th among 30 pole vaulters with a clearance of 5.55 meters, not enough to make it to the top 12 or the qualification standard of 5.80 meters.

The Filipino pole vaulter failed to clear 5.70 meters twice, and missed 5.75 in what was his last jump of the meet to miss the final of the tournament after podium finishes in the last two editions.

Obiena claimed a silver in 2022 in Eugene, United States, and bronze in 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.

The 29-year-old now heads home for the Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge in Makati where he will compete in front of Filipino fans in the event initiated by him.

Mondo Duplantis of Sweden led the qualifiers after reaching 5.75 meters. Also making it with the same mark are Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, Sam Kendricks of United States, Sondre Mogens Guttormsen of Norway, Menno Vloon of Netherlands, Kurtis Marschall of Australia, Ethan Cormont of France, Bo Kanda Lita Baehre of Greece, Thibaut Collet of France, Renaud Lavillenie of France, Seifeldin Heneida Abdesalam of Qatar, and Ersu Sasma of Turkey.
