EJ Obiena erases 26-year Asian record in ruling Berlin event

EJ OBIENA captured another gold medal in the 2024 indoor season, registering an Asian record in the ISTAF Berlin held at the Mercedes Benz Arena.

Obiena registered 5.93 meters for the gold and a new Asian record, surpassing the old mark of 5.92 meters set by Igor Potapovich of Kazakhstan in 1998.

Obiena also set a new national and personal best, erasing the previous record by .02 meters that he set in 2022.

The Filipino pole vaulter has now won his second meet in as many tries to start his 2024 season on a high note.

Obiena now sets his sights on the World Athletics Indoor Championships set to begin on March 3 in Glasgow, Scotland.
