THE Philippine running community is mourning the loss of Rafael Poliquit Jr., who passed away on Thursday due to complications from subdural empyema.

Poliquit passed away on Thursday afternoon after being in a coma for the past days at the V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City. He was 30 years old.

According to msdmanuals.com, subdural empyema "is a collection of pus between the dura mater and the underlying arachnoid mater."

Poliquit was supposed to see action for the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games here alongside Mary Joy Tabal in the marathon.

The Tagum native even ruled the Milo Marathon for the third time last year where he clocked his personal best of two hours, 29 minutes, and 47 seconds.
