Danny Ildefonso glad to be back at Meralco camp, ready to play quality minutes under Norman Black

    Oct 9, 2014

DANNY Ildefonso hopes to make the most of what could probably be the final run in his illustrious PBA career.

After close to a month of back-and-forth negotiations with expansion team Blackwater, Ildefonso got his wish of being released by the Elite on Wednesday, paving the way for his return to the Meralco Bolts.

Ildefonso played for Meralco this past season following Petron’s (now San Miguel Beer) decision to drop its former franchise player late last year, ending 15 years of partnership.

“Siyempre, unang-una nagpapasalamat ako kay boss MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan) dahil nakabalik ako sa Meralco,” Ildefonso told on Thursday.

The two-time PBA MVP said he was able to express his thanks personally to Pangilinan who hosted a special dinner meeting for the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday evening at his residence in Forbes Park.

Under new Meralco coach Norman Black, Ildefonso isn’t expecting to play major minutes, though he’d be happy to provide quality plays for a team that is out to improve on their 14-22 win-loss record last season under former coach Ryan Gregorio.

“Tingin ko quality minutes lang naman, basta pag pinasok ako ibibigay ko lahat sa court,” said the former National University Bulldog star.

“Hangin na lang naman kulang, pero at least, sa practice, nakita ko na kung ano gustong gawin ni coach,” he added.

Ildefonso earned one Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week citation during last season’s Philippine Cup before finishing the season with averages of 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in just 21 games.
