DESPITE being on-court rivals, Alyssa Valdez and Mika Reyes both share the same inspiration and dreams.
The country’s top volleybelles disclosed what everyone already knows – their undying passion for the sport and how inspired they are to reach for their goals.
Valdez and Reyes along with PBA guard Chris Banchero were introduced as Gatorade ambassadors during the launching of the sports drink’s newest flavor - White Lightning.
Valdez, the Ateneo superstar, said setbacks such as the one she suffered in the recent UAAP beach volleyball tournament where her partnership with Bea Tan failed to make it to the finals, only drive her to keep on going.
“For me, aside from my family, the supporters and you guys (media), everyday hindi natin maiiwasan na, like you said, tatamarin ka. But I guess it's the love and passion for the sport that keeps you moving,” she said during the Gatorade press launch.
“You keep on motivating yourself and when you have your down days or your off days, it only goes to show that you love the sport because you continue to do what you do and it's the love and passion for the sport (that keeps me motivated),” she added.
For Reyes, the alluring La Salle stalwart, being an inspiration to others especially to children is her prime motivation.
“Syempre andoon pa rin 'yung pagiging inspiration mo to others especially to the kids and aspiring athletes na nagtitiyaga everyday para makuha nila 'yung gusto nila,” she said.
Banchero said his newest role as Gatorade ambassador made his mother cry with joy.
“When I told my mother that I was going to be part of the Gatorade (ambassadors), she started crying,” he shared. “You know when you're an athlete you want to be part of Gatorade that's a top place anyone would like to be.”
