PAUL Marton de La Cruz and Amaya Paz-Cojuangco won the mixed team compound Olympic round gold on Wednesday in the Asia Cup-Stage 2 archery competition at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
De La Cruz and Paz-Cojuangco edged the top-seeded Chinese Taipei tandem of Lin Ming-Ching and Lin Che-Wei, 151-147, in the gold medal match.
It was De La Cruz’s third gold medal of the competition, earlier topping the individual compound qualification and the individual compound Olympic round.
The Philippines placed third in the qualification of the compound mixed team, enough to gain a quarterfinal bye. De La Cruz and Paz-Cojuangco nipped India, 154-153, after topping the fourth and final end, 39-37.
After a 74-74 tie after the second end, De La Cruz and Paz-Cojuangco took the third end, 38-36, before a 39-37 fourth end that saw the Filipino bets make three 10s.
