BARANGAY Ginebra guards LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson shared how running contributed to their pursuit of a PBA championship, which culminated in a classic Governors Cup battle the Gin Kings won over the Meralco Bolts, as they recently joined the Nike Run Club.

“I’m not really that much of a fan of running, but it’s an important part of the game. If you want to be a champion, you have to be willing to do things, even if you’re uncomfortable doing it,” admitted Tenorio, the Ginebra starting point guard and the Governors’ Cup Finals MVP.

“You need to have the stamina and endurance especially late in the game, because that’s what will help you get that hard-earned victory. It’s important that your body is used to all that running when it gets intense and tight in the fourth quarter,” the verstaile Thompson added.

Basketball is a game of reaction. Throughout a game, players engage in successive jumping, stopping, changing direction and running. It doesn’t matter if it’s on offense or defense, ballers have to run the whole 94 feet of hardwood with every possession. It’s hard. It’s tiring. But players have no choice but to do it if they want to win at the game they love.

Constant motion is an integral part of anyone’s game regardless of playing position. PBA guards do a lot of running to orchestrate the offense, direct the defense, and cut inside the lane. This definitely holds true for Tenorio and Thompson, who played an integral role in leading their squad to its first title in eight years.

Both guards believe that running plays a part not just for physical health but for mental well-being as well.

“It gets my mind straight and keeps me focused on the task at hand,” said Tenorio.

To amp up their training and conditioning regimen, both Tenorio and Thompson use the new Nike + Run Club App. The app is ideal for indoor and outdoor runs and was recently redesigned and updated to provide premier motivation-guidance-support system, helping athletes to run farther and faster than ever before.

Tenorio’s favorite part of the Nike + Run Club App is the GPS tracker, which helps him see how fast or far he is from completing his run.

“It helps me be aware how much harder and longer I need to go,” he said

Meanwhile, Thompson likes the app’s ‘Adaptive Coaching’ function – which enables runners to create a customized plan to help them achieve their specific goals. This feature helps coaching plans adapt to athletes’ schedule on the fly. It also includes in-ear coaching from experts, which help push the pace so one can find that inner drive to train harder and faster.

Running is definitely not just a hobby or a go-to way to lose weight. As what Tenorio and Thompson have shown, it is an integral part of what helped them become champions.

The Nike + Run Club App is available for iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Runners are also invited to join the Nike + Run Club training sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:34 PM at Nike Park, BGC. To sign up, go to
