MULTI-SPORT enthusiasts looking for a new type of race will be challenged to “Dare, Overcome, Dominate” when the Sante Barley Domination is held on February 15.

The unique event combines four distinct races at the Clark International Speedway that will comprise a duathlon, cycling and running events.

At a press conference at the 100 Miles Café at The Fort Strip in Bonifacio Global City, Sante Barley CEO Joey Marcelo talked excitedly about their one-day, one-venue sports event which he said “something new and unique” to the triathlon landscape.

The Sante Barley Domination will have three categories: duathlon, cycling and running. The main event is the Pure Barley Duathlon: 4K run- 40K bike-4K run (P2,000 registration fee).

For the cycling set, the Whey Barley Criterium is a 40K bike race (P1,500) and the Barley Pure Time Trial: 20K (P1,500).

Runners can look forward to the Barley Max Run: 5-mile and 10-mile (P700 and P800, respectively).

Race organizer Raul Cuevas of Bike King said participants and spectators can look forward to a new experience in the first-ever race of its kind.

“Believe me, it’s a different experience riding your bike inside the four-kilometer long Speedway. It will be a unique drafting race which is very spectator-friendly, unlike regular races where bikers can only be seen when they cross the finish line,” Cuevas said.

Cuevas said they are limiting the number of racers on the track in order to maximize the race experience. For the cyclists there would be 400-500 total with 50 riders per category. They have a cap of 2,000 participants for the running event.

Launched seven years ago, Sante Barley initially marketed wellness products from New Zealand for sick people (one notable testimony is musician April Boy Regino who credits the brand for healing his prostate cancer). The brand has since transitioned to bringing barley grass-based organic products to health-conscious consumers with an active lifestyle.

“This is the reason why we started promoting activities that promote health and wellness. We created a competitive triathlon team. Afterwards we soon decided to venture into sporting events,” Marcelo explained.

In 2013, the company launched its first event, the Sante Domination Run that attracted 6,500 runners.

Registration from December 1 onwards: online through or send an email to

In-store registration is exclusive for only the run event and will be at Sante Barley Headquarters at the G/F Eton Cyberpod, Ortigas Avenue corner EDSA in Quezon City (across Robinson’s Galleria).
