Fedrigo reprises victory in Pau, tops Stage 15

FRENCHMAN Pierrick Fedrigo reprised his victory in Pau two years ago, outsprinting Christian Vande Velde of the US to win Stage 15 from Samatan.

The 33-year-old rider tried to split from a six-man break with five kilometers left in the 158.5-km ride. Vande Velde managed to keep pace until the final few meters when the Frenchman had another burst of speed that the American couldn’t match.

Fedrigo and Vande Velde clocked three hours, 40 minutes and 15 seconds, while Thomas Voeckler crossed the finish line third, 12 seconds behind.

It was the fourth stage victory for Fedrigo, who also won in Pau in the 2010 Tour.

The main bunch had yellow jersey Bradley Wiggins and his rivals in the general classification, which meant another day has passed with no change in the order.

The peloton crossed the finish line around 12 minutes after the stage winner.

Wiggins maintained his 2:05 lead over fellow British rider Chris Froome, 2:23 over Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali and 3:19 over last year’s champion Cadel Evans of Australia.
