Diamsay proud to show off climbing skills

SHERWIN DIAMSAY scored his second victory in three stages, topping the race to Lucena on Saturday in the Ronda Pilipinas.

The 32-year-old rider finished the 209.2-kilometer Stage 8 from Daet, Camarines Norte to Lucena City in five hours, 16 minutes and 36 seconds.

American Vinyl-LPGMA skipper Irish Valenzuela finished 86 seconds behind to take runner-up honors (5:18.02) while unheralded mountain bike specialist Nino Surban of Y101-FM Cebu was a surprise third (5:18.12).

“Talagang pinakita ko na may galing din ako sa pag-ahon,” said Diamsay, who pocketed another P50,000 for the lap win. Diamsay also won Stage 6, a race from Tacloban to Calbayog, on Wednesday.

LPGMA’s Cris Joven placed seventh and jumped from fourth to first place overall.

Joven has an aggregate time of 32:49.51, and has lead of one minute and 33 seconds over Ronald Gorantes of Metro Manila (32:51.24). V-Mobile’s Oscar Rindole is in third place (32:51.28).

Erstwhile frontrunner Baler Ravina of  Roadbike Phils. finished the stage in 71st spot (5:27.20) and slipped to 18th in the overall standings.

Diamsay’s team One Tarlac also moved to first in the standings (97:35.31), dislodging V-Mobile (97:40.43). Metro Manila is in third (97:41.38), just five seconds ahead of Navy-Standard Insurance (97:41.43).
