INTERSPORT finally broke ground in Southeast Asia after formally opening its first store in the Philippines on Thursday at the Ayala Vertis North Mall on Quezon City.

Planet Sports Incorporated, the company behind Planet Sports, the Athlete's Foot and Sports Warehouse, took pride in bringing in the 500-square-foot store in line with their vision of bringing quality sports products in the country.

"One nice thing about Intersport is that it's a global concept and nowadays at the age of globalization it's very important to grow concepts that are global in nature," said Planet Sports Inc. President Anton Gonzalez.

"It's something that's very important for us to grow around the world and have our opportunity in the Philippines.. it's the alignment that we have all over the world," he added.

This opening marked the 5500th store of Intersport in the world, after its inception in Switzerland. It holds all the major brands from Nike, Adidas, New Balance and other apparel covering different kinds of sports.

"One thing about the Swiss is they're very detail oriented. The way they design plans on the concept, on the design part, the manufacturing and the business planning, they're very meticulous about it," Gonzalez continued.

Local sports personalities were also present in the ribbon cutting like volleyball star Alyssa Valdez and Ateneo cager Thirdy Ravena, along with two-time PBA MVP Willie Miller.

Planet Sports Inc. plans to continue its expansion in the country, planning stores in Makati, BGC, Mall of Asia and Cebu in the future.
