Pinoy architect Archie Tolentino enters Final Four of 2016 World Sneaker Championships

FILIPINO architect Archie Tolentino is on the cusp of breaking into the lucrative world of the sneaker industry after his design was voted into the Final Four of the 2016 Pensole World Sneaker Championship.

“JUST IN: the Philippines is in the FINAL FOUR. Thanks again for the votes and shares! Tough, tough matchup on the next round (vs USA again!),” Tolentino said on his Facebook post on Monday.

The Quezon City-based architect has beaten two US designers in the previous two rounds and breaks ground as the lone Filipino entry in the competition sponsored by international shoe retail chain Footlocker. The winner will be given the opportunity to work at the Pensole Design Academy

In the Final Four, Tolentino is once more bracketed against another American in Maxwell Lund, a college student from Minnesota whose entry is a shoe that features a 'unique lacing system.'

Tolentino’s design 'El Povernir' (The Future) is a tribute to a rubber shoe manufactured by a defunct Filipino company in the 1940s. He considers Nike's Tinker Hatfield, famous for designing the Air Jordan line of signature shoes, as one of his work's major influences.

If you wish to support Archie, you can cast your vote (no registration required) here. Voting is from April 10 to 14 (April 11 to 15, Manila time).
