Nike celebrates legendary Dream Team with re-release of Barkley's shoes used in Barcelona

THE original 'Dream Team' that was assembled to reclaim the men’s basketball gold medal for the US in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics are remembered for a lot of things: the legendary roster of future Hall of Famers on the team and how they defeated their opponents by an average of 44 points.

Sneakerheads, however, will always remember the shoes.

Nike will release selected retros in Team USA colorways in time for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Among them is the Nike Air Force 180 'Olympic' worn by Charles Barkley.

The red, white and blue sneaker figured prominently in the tournament as 'Sir Charles,' the Dream Team's top scorer in Barcelona, proved controversial due to his on-court aggressiveness and trash talking opponents as well as teammates.

No official release date has been announced although rumor mills have it the pairs will drop this July.
