ASI Taulava said it is an honor being selected as a brand ambassador of a fast-growing sports apparel brand, being the elder statesman of the domestic professional basketball league.

“I thought people were joking when I was told Under Armour was interested in me as ambassador,” said the 43-year old Filipino-Tongan during the opening of the newest Under Armour branch in Trinoma mall in Quezon City, the fifth store in the country and fourth in Metro Manila.

Taulava was picked by UA with Barangay Ginebra’s Jervy Cruz.

The NLEX big man said he considers being chosen as a blessing, “It feels good that they chose me, one of the oldest guys still playing around the world. You know at my age, you’re thinking guys on rocking chairs at home. To be given this opportunity is just great, especially you have to perform as an athlete.”

"The brand is growing and growing well.  As an ambassador I have to do my part, give it a good name and perform as well,” says Taulava.

Taulava and Cruz were showcased in a basketball clinic held by the brand at the Trinoma atrium, the first hoops-centric activity involving a store launch that in the past focused mainly crossfit and combat sports. Hundreds of fans lined up for selfies with the two PBA stars.

Asked what it felt being alongside NBA superstar Steph Curry as a brand ambassador, Taulava quipped, “I wish I can shoot like him!”

Taulava, who wore the UA Top Guns during PBA All-Star Weekend, was provided with a special pair to wear in his next game with the Road Warriors. An enthusiastic Taulava showed reporters the Curry 2 “MVP”.

“I’m excited. Can’t wait to wear ‘em! It’s gonna be good!”
