RACHEL Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga were the first two players named to the Philippine Super Liga All Star team that will compete in the FIVB World Club Women’s Championship in Manila from October 18 to 23.
The two RC Cola Army players were handed the golden ticket on Thursday by PSL president Tats Suzara and chairman Popoy Juico before the Lady Troopers’ match against the Navy.
The PSL All Star team will have seven local players and seven foreign reinforcements as they play against seven of the world’s best club teams from Brazil, Japan, Turkey, Switzerland and Thailand.
Daquis and Gonzaga played for the Philippines in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore. Gonzaga also represented the country in the beach volleyball tournament of the 2011 SEA Games in Palembang.
The seven local players will be formally presented during the tournament’s official launch on July 12.
Aside from the PSL All-Star team, competing are Rexona Ades of Brazil, Bangkok Glass of Thailand, Volero Zurich of Switzerland, Hisamitsu Springs of Japan, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and VakifBank Istanbul of Turkey and Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy.
“Rachel and Jovelyn are two of the country’s best players. That’s why it is only fitting to invite them to be part of the team that will compete in the best club tournament in the world. We welcome Rachel and Jovelyn on board and we hope that they will do everything to make us proud,” said Suzara.
