RC Cola-Army recovered from a sluggish third set before pouring it all out in the fourth to pull off a 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20 win over Foton on Saturday in the 2016 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Rachel Anne Daquis delivered 18 kills, two aces and one block to finish with 21 points, while Jovelyn Gonzaga also had a 21-point production as Army sealed the win after more than two hours.
Army remained unbeaten in five outings and is the provisional leader, with unbeaten F2 Logistics still to play its fifth match, while Petron is in third with a 4-1 win-loss record.
“We’re a bit sluggish, but I’m so happy that somehow we pulled it off,” said Army coach Kungfu Reyes.
“We lost our coverage in the third set. We also lost the power on our spikes. That’s why in the fourth, I told them to recover. Attack Jaja (Santiago) as much as we can to make it difficult for her to execute.”
EJ Laure had 16 kills and finished with 18 points, while Santiago had 16 markers for Foton, which absorbed its third setback in five matches.
