LA Salle got a big boost ahead of its second-round showdown with Ateneo as the Lady Spikers edged Thai team Est Cola, 20-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11, in a tune up match on Wednesday morning at the university’s gym in Manila.
The Lady Spikers impressed Thai coach Chamnan Dokmai with their overall play but made special mention of setter Kim Fajardo.
"They are very good. I know some players in that university team,” said Dokmai, whose squad is in Manila for the Philippine Superliga Invitational final round starting on Thursday.
"They are very good especially the setter. Their setter is very, very good,” he added.
Dokmai once coached the Thai team in the Asean University Games, with Ateneo de Manila mentor Tai Bundit as his assistant.
Est Cola will play local club teams RC Cola-Army, F2 Logistics and Petron in a round robin format. The Thai squad will take on F2 Logistics at 4 p.m. on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Spikers are looking to complete a sweep of their elimination-round matches with The Lady Eagles when they face off on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
