RC Cola Army snaps out of three-game PSL skid at expense of Generika

RC Cola Army snapped out of a three-game losing skid at the expense of Generika, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20, 26-24, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

The Lady Troopers spent an hour inside the locker room after they lost to F2 Logistics on Tuesday and then came out with renewed focus to put away the winless Generika side.

Jovelyn Gonzaga once again led the way for RC Cola while getting some help from Honey Tubino as the three-time PSL champions improved to 2-3 for fourth spot in the standings.

Generika is yet to buy a win in six matches.

American import Kierra Holst finished with 21 points for RC Cola Army while Gonzaga and Tubino added 17 and 12 markers apiece.

Down by one, Holts fired a down the line kill to tie the contest, 19-19, in the fourth set in a sequence that drew the ire of Generika which claimed the ball sailed out.

Life Savers coach Francis Vicente and middle blocker Ria Meneses complained furiously and the veteran mentor was given one red card and a yellow card, while Meneses was slapped with another red card.

The two red cards automatically meant two bonus points for RC Cola Army, 21-19, putting an anti-climactic end to the match.

“Breaks of the game,” said RC Cola Army coach Kungfu Reyes, whose team trailed, 16-10, in the fourth set.

“Bonus shot sa amin ‘yun, actually hindi ko alam. Akala ko china-challenge ni coach Francis ‘yung tawag, ayun nag-usap kami, sigawan pala si Ria noong first referee sabi ko di ko nakita kasi may substitution kami kaya tumalikod ako,” he added.

“So bonus para sa amin pero masakit para kay Generika considering na pwede pa silang manalo sa fourth set, two points pala nadagdag sa amin akala ko isa lang,” he continued.

Russian import Polina Liutikova made 18 points for the Life Savers, while Shaya Adorador added 15 and Darlene Ramdin chipped in 13.
