Macky Carino takes on bigger role as volleyball program head at Perpetual Help after resigning as CSB coach
With Macky Carino in charge, the Lady Altas hope to make it back to the semifinals after missing out last season.

MACKY Carino has been appointed executive volleyball director and women’s coach of the University of Perpetual Help.

Carino, who resigned as coach of the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, takes a bigger role at Perpetual Help, handling the volleyball program while also taking the job as coach of the Lady Altas.

The NCAA Season 93 volleyball tournament starts on Jan. 4, 2018.

“I resigned to assume a bigger role, which is to handle not only the women’s volleyball team but Perpetual Help’s volleyball program as a whole,” said Carino.

Sammy Acaylar was promoted athletic director last year, while keeping the job as men’s volleyball coach.

“Perpetual Help already has a strong volleyball program and I’m here to just continue it and hopefully make some improvements,” said Carino.

Acaylar, long-time head of the program that has produced 10 men’s titles, nine juniors and three women’s championships, said he is optimistic Carino can handle the job.

“Everybody knows he is my protégé and I’m confident he can do the job well, maybe even better,” he said.

St. Benilde men’s coach Arnold Laniog will handle the Lady Blazers on the interim basis.
