JESON Patrombon crushed Abdulrahman Alawadhi of Kuwait, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 to kickstart the Philippine team's campaign in their Davis Cup Group II tie at Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City.

The former world juniors No.9 breezed through the opening set without the loss of a game and, except for a stretch in the second set when the Kuwaiti kept it close at 2-3, was hardly threatened in the victory.

"This is a great start to our campaign. Jeson played superbly and I'm looking forward to Ruben (Gonzales) duplicating his feat. We really have a great team out there and I strongly believe we'll wrap up this match by Saturday," said team manager Jean Henri Lhuillier.

While satisfied with the good debut, Lhuillier, who is also the chairman of the board of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), said the ultimate goal is to make it back to the world group.
