ANA Ivanovic steered the Micromax Indian Aces to a 26-16 victory over the DBS Singapore Slammers to kick off their campaign in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) on a bright note on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ivanovic blanked Daniela Hantuchova, 6-0, in the women’s singles, setting the stage for the Aces’ dominance of the Slammers for a 1-0 win-loss slate in the Manila leg of the meet.
The win by the Serbian netter came with the tie hanging in the balance at 14-all.
“It was a great match. I didn’t know what to expect. The crowd was amazing. I enjoyed coming out here,” said Ivanovic in the post-match interview.
Gael Monfils downed Lleyton Hewitt, 6-1, in the men’s singles to settle the final score.
Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza beat Bruno Soares and Hantuchova, 6-4, in the mixed doubles, while Fabrice Santoro won over Pat Rafter, 6-5, in the legends singles.
But the Slammers came right back after Nick Kyrgios and Tomas Berdych beat Bopanna and Monfils, 6-2, in the men’s doubles.
