MERALCO returns from a 10-day break and disputes the third quarterfinal slot in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference with Philippine Army on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Power Spikers were supposed to use the time off for a team-building session, but the players’ working schedule kept them from doing so.

“Medyo hindi nag coincide sa work schedule ng players,” said Meralco coach Oliver Almadro.

“But I gave them two days rest and some players used one day of that as their bonding together with Coco (Wang),” added Almadro, referring to Meralco’s Chinese import.

The Power Spikers (3-2) go for a second straight win against the Lady Troopers (3-1) in their 4 p.m. match, with the winner joining unbeaten Cagayan Province and Smart-Maynilad in the next phase.

Despite Army playing without veteran setter Tina Salak due to health reasons, Almadro said they won't take the Lady Troopers lightly.

“We just adjusted our defense and receiving pattern because we know that Army is a tall and very talented team. We just also have to put a positive mindset going to our game versus Army. I am confident that our team will play hard tomorrow (Friday),” he said.

Meanwhile, Philippine Navy and Philippine Air Force clash at 2 p.m. as both teams try to boost their respective quarterfinal bids.

The Lady Sailors and Air Women are currently at the bottom of the standings with 1-4 and 2-3 cards, respectively.
