THE Philippine V-Belles bowed to Indonesia, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22, on Sunday at the end of its campaign in the Southeast Asian qualifiers of the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championships in Vietnam.

The hastily formed team of standouts from Shakey’s V-League got off to strong starts in both the first and third sets but each time allowed the strong Indonesian squad to fight back.

The V-Belles finished the tournament with a 1-2 win-loss slate, just weeks after being built from scratch on the orders of the Philippine Olympic Committee after the country was threatened with sanctions by the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

Their lone victory coming at the expense of Myanmar on Saturday.

The Filipina spikers got off to a strong start by opening a 16-11 lead but failed to close out the first set. They also held a 16-14 lead in the third set but faded badly yet again.

They opened the tournament with a straight-set loss to host Vietnam, which clinched the lone spot to the Asian qualifiers regardless the result of its game against Myanmar.
