PCSO-Bingo Milyonaryo is winless no more in the Philippine Super Liga.
The Puffins bucked a sluggish start to defeat Cignal HD, 16-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-21, for their breakthrough win in the league Friday night at The Arena in San Juan.
Winning coach Ronald Dulay said PCSO is now beginning to develop cohesion that was obviously lacking in their first two losses against PLDT MyDSL and Cagayan Valley.
“Ngayon kasi nagbe-blend na 'yung team 'di tulad noong first two games namin. Ngayon alam na namin basahin ang play ng bawat isa,” he said.
After losing the first set, the Puffins won the next two before leaning on the endgame heroics of Maureen Penetrante and Michele Gumabao to clinch the victory.
With the score tied at 21-all in the fourth set, Penetrante unloaded three consecutive spikes to bring PCSO within match point. Gumabao then sealed the win with a beautiful service ace.
“Happy kaming coaching staff kasi every game tumataas ang laro ng mga bata,” said Dulay.
Penetrante and Stephanie Mercado, both former De La Salle standouts, came away with 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Puffins, who improved to a 1-2 (win-loss) card.
PCSO also capitalized on Cignal's huge 37 miscues against the 19 errors for the Puffins.
Honey Tubino led the HD Spikers with 19 markers, while Danika Gendrauli and Venus Bernal finished with 13 and 12, respectively.
Cignal slid to third place in a tie with the Puffins and Petron.
