A PLAYER ranked No. 100 in the world and seeing action in the Wilmbledon main draw for the first time stunned world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, winning in five sets in the second round on Friday, Manila time.
Czech Republic's Lukas Rosol, who had lost in the first round of qualifying in each of the last five years, pulled off a 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 over Nadal, and seemingly put three exclamation marks after the scoreline by closing out the match with three straight aces.
Except in 2009 when he was injured, Nadal had reached the Wimbledon final each year from 2005 and made the final of the last five Grand Slam events.
The 26-year-old Rosol next takes on Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, a 6-1, 7-6 (2), 6-1 winner over Malek Jaziri.
Andy Murray, who is playing in Nadal's side of the draw, overcame big-serving Ivo Karlovic, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4).
30th seed Andy Roddick also advanced to the third round with a 6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-3 victory over Bjorn Phau.
Maria Sharapova recovered from a set down to reach the third round, beating Tsvetana Pironkova, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (3), 6-0.
