The four-hour, 66-game long match is the longest match ever in the Olympics, erasing the previous mark of 63 games featuring Canadians Carling Bassett-Seguso and Jill Hetherington in a doubles victory over Argentines Mercedes Paz and Gabriela Sabatini in the 1988 Seoul Games.

The Frenchman eyes a quarterfinal spot when he battles Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

Home bet Andy Murray, meanwhile, eased past Jarkko Nieminen of Finland, 6-2, 6-4.
