JUVIC PAGUNSAN fired a four-under 67 to move within a stroke of the lead after Saturday’s third round of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open on the Japan Tour.
Pagunsan was six under through 12 holes but found trouble on the 13th and dropped another stroke on the 15th to end the day alone in second place at four under and 13-under for the tournament.
The three-day aggregate of 200 was just a hairline off pacesetter Masamichi Uehira, who had a 65 for a 199 total.
It was the third straight day the Filipino parbuster scored in the 60s at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club after earlier rounds of 67-66.
The Filipino, top money earner on the Asian Tour last year, started Saturday’s play with three consecutive birdies before suffering his first bogey of the day on No. 4. He picked up three more shots to move to five under at the turn.
Tomohiro Kondo and Masahiro Kawamura had 66s and first-round co-leader Koumei Oda had a 68 to share third place at 12 under. Yusaku Miyazato (68) and Hiroyuki Fujita (70) shared sixth place at 11 under.
