POWERHOUSE Ateneo de Davao turned the Cherifer seven-a-side football tournament into a veritable one-school show as it ran over the opposition by taking four of five titles staked.
Ateneo pocketed the titles in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 boys and Under-14 girls to the delight of the huge pro-Ateneo crowd that turned the Tionko Field in Davao City into a picnic ground. The only title that eluded Ateneo was the Under-8 crown which went to the Crocs Football Club.
Ateneo kicked off its title harvest by collecting the U-10 crown at the expense of Black Knights FC. It later added the U-12 crown by defeating Mintal United, crushed Catalunan Grande for the U-14 boys title then capped its emphatic run by turning back a fighting Sakya FC in the U-14 girls finals.
As if the team titles were not enough, the Ateneo standouts also collared all but one of the MVP honors through Jasper Lim (10-under), Kahlil Jikiri (12-under), Venz Abella (14-under boys) and Johanna Marie Adao (14-under girls). Crocs FC’s Christian Osog (8-under) prevented an Ateneo sweep of the individual awards.
Stefanie Perez, events coordinator of Intermed Marketing Phils. Inc., makers of Cherifer Vitamins, awarded the trophies and medals with Davao Football Association general secretary Erwin Protacio and DFA directors Michael Co, Dapoy Diamante and Rachelle de los Reyes.
A total of 46 teams took part in the one-day event organized by DFA and supported by UP Mindanao-CWTS class.
