Navarette's son shares spotlight in PXC-37 card

May 15, 2013

ONE hit deserves another.

Pacific Xtreme Combat-37 is expected to build on the momentum generated by PXC-35 as the fastest growing professional sports league in the country returns this Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Crisanto Pitpitunge makes the first defense of his bantamweight title against unbeaten Michinori Tanaka in the main event of the night.

Pitpitunge (4-1), a native of Baguio City, is coming off a shocking win over highly-favored Justin Cruz.

The return to action of the 26-year-old Pitpitunge, a criminology graduate at the University of the Cordilleras, combined with the success of PXC-35 last February easily makes organizers optimistic Saturday’s fight card will be another success.

“We expect more viewers this Saturday because PXC-35 is the best so far,” said PXC general manager EJ Calvo in Tuesday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

Appearing with Calvo in the session presented by the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp. and Shakey’s, were flyweight Ernesto Montilla Jr. and featherweight Rolando Dy, son of former world champion Rolando Navarette.

Montilla is set to battle Jerome Wanawan, while Dy takes on Arex Montalban.

Calvo has nothing but praise for Dy. “I’ve seen him kick, I’ve seen him punch, and I could say he has the knockout punch.”

A 22-year-old legal studies student at Lyceum, Dy has background in boxing, wrestling, and muay thai.

“May pangarap din po ako na gusting maabot sa sports na ito. Gusto ko rin pong maging world champion,” said Dy.
