Valda, Masuda take gold in Pan Asian Jiu Jitsu

THREE-time Southeast Asian Games wrestling champion Marcus Valda won in the Open weight category and May Masuda bagged double gold in the women's division to lead Deftac Pilipinas’ six-gold haul in the the Pan Asian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament recently at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Valda downed Taiwan BJJ’s Dimitri Telfair while Q23 Bangkok’s Thien Krua and Mark Simmerman each bagged bronze medals in the purple belt category of the tournament that also lured fighters from Taiwan, Guam, Thailand, and Singapore.

Masuda won the blue belt Open Weight over Tiger Muay Thai’s Kitty Teppo and won the middleweight (under 58.5 kg) final against Asleeh Cruz of Origins BJJ.

Marco Greco won the white belt heavyweight (under 94.3 kg) division over Lefleri Papasoglon of Ludusthouse MMA, while Javier Gonzales won the blue belt heavyweight in an all-Deftac final against Sam Santiago.
