GRANDMASTER Mark Paragua and FIDE Master Haridas Pascua share the lead after the seventh round of the Philippine Sports Commission Cup International Chess Championships Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Paragua beat fellow GM Oliver Barbosa, while Pascua drew with IM Bayarsaikhan Gundavaa of Mongolia to take the top spot with six points each.
Gundavaa is at third place with 5.5 points along with GM Richard Bitoon, who defeated IM Ricardo Nolte.
FIDE Master Gombosuren Munkhgal of Mongolia, GMs Darwin Laylo, Aleksandr Rakhmanov, Joey Antonio and John Paul Gomez, and Hamed Nouri round out the top 10 with two rounds left in the nine-round Swiss system tournament.
Munkhgal drew with Rakhmanov, while Laylo beat Silverio Abasolo.
Antonio downed Sumiya Bilguun of Mongolia, even as Gomez won over Rhobel Legaspi, and Nouri defeated Nelson Mariano III.
The champion will receive $6,000 out of the total pot of $30,000.
