The pair of Iris Ranola and Rubilen Amit tumbled out of contention in the Women’s World 9-Ball Championship after losing their respective matches in the knockout stage on Wednesday in Shenyang, China.
Ranola, double gold winner in the last Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia, lost to four-time champion and Hall of Famer Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 9-6, even as Amit, the former World 10-Ball queen, bowed to Japanese Chichiro Kawahara, 9-2.
Both losses came in the round-of-32 phase of the US$160,000 meet that offers US$40,000 to the champion.
The fight does not end here for the top two Filipina pool players, though.
By the end of the month, Ranola and Amit team up with the trio of Efren `Bata’ Reyes, Francisco `Django’ Bustamante, and Dennis Orcollo in carrying the country’s colors in the World Team Championship in Beijing, China.
