DON’T be surprised if you see well-known PBA players assisting voters or even personally carrying Precint Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) machines during Monday’s national elections.
No less than Air21 team owner Bert Lina has asked his millionaire basketball players to personally work as poll coordinators and do their bit in helping realize orderly and peaceful elections.
Airfreight 2100, a company owned by Lina, is one of the two freight and cargo forwarding firms tasked by the Commission on Elections to deploy PCOS machines in voting centers nationwide in Monday’s polls.
“Our players are assigned in different election precincts. Yung iba taga-deliver ng PCOS, mayroong iba na mag-a-unload ng PCOS galing sa warehouse papuntang polling stations,” said Air 21 assistant coach Cholo Villanueva.
Among the Express who are likely to give voters a refreshing sight during the elections are Mike Cortez, KG Canaleta, Bonbon Custodio, Noy Baclao, Renren Ritualo, Mark Isip, James Sena, John Wilson, Wynne Arboleda, and rookie Simon Atkins.
“Break muna kami sa basketball. Tulong muna sa bayan,” said Atkins, who was personally informed by team governor Lito Alvarez of the project.
Villanueva bared the move is Mr. Lina’s way of enticing the public to be of service to the country.
“Gusto kasi naming ipakita na hindi lamang ang company namin ang nagsisilbi sa bansa, pati `yung mga players namin role models sila sa youth to do their share in nation-building,” said the youthful assistant of head coach Franz Pumaren.
“Aside from encouraging the public to vote, gusto rin namin himukin ang tao na maglingkod sa bayan in small ways,” he added.
