THE fines for B-Meg in this PBA Governors Cup Finals just keep on piling up.
Two-time MVP James Yap was the latest casualty after the Commissioner’s Office slapped him a P5,000 fine for the flagrant foul penalty 1 he committed against Rain or Shine’s Jireh Ibanes during Game Five on Wednesday night.
Yap was caught swinging at Ibanes with a clenched first as they fought for position for a rebound late in the first quarter of Wednesday night’s match at the Araneta Coliseum.
Ibanes was also called for the same offense against Yap in an earlier play, and subsequently fined the similar amount by Commissioner Chito Salud.
His Rain or Shine teammate Beau Belga was also penalized P5,000 as the second technical foul called on him was upgraded to flagrant foul penalty 1. The portly center was ejected out of the game in the third quarter after he tackled B-Meg import Marcus Blakely at center court.
All players appeared before Salud on Thursday.
For B-Meg, the fine was the latest dealt on them in this Finals alone, which now totaled P63,400.
Coach Tim Cone had been the recipient of fines totalling P23,400 for incurring his fourth technical foul in the season-ending conference and throwing a monobloc chair at midcourt of the Big Dome during the opener of the championship series.
The incident left some scratches on the playing court of the Araneta Coliseum, leading management to charge the PBA P15,000 for repairs. Media bureau chief Willie Marcial however, said the league is going to bill the Llamdos for the expenses.
In Game Four, Marc Pingris’s flagrant foul penalty 1 committed against Ryan Arana was upgraded to penalty 2, leading to a fine of P20,000. The B-Meg forward however, escaped being suspended.
Counting an earlier P1,000 penalty meted on Ryan Arana for second motion, Rain or Shine’s total fines in five games so far have now run up to P11,000.
In all, a combined P73,400 in fines had been slapped on both teams in this series.
“Ok lang na pisikal, huwag lang sadya kasi medyo di maganda,” said Yap of the physical encounter in the series.
