JAMES Yap exploded for 30 big points in steering B-Meg to an emphatic 91-81 win over Rain or Shine in Game Five then later dedicated his best game of the conference to his late mother-in-law, former President Corazon Aquino.

“Siyempre, inaalay natin ito sa No. 1 fan ng basketball, si Mam Cory,” said the soft-spoken Yap as he munched on a sandwich while still dripping wet with sweat during the post-game interview that followed the highly-physical match before a crowd of 12,135 at the Araneta Coliseum.

August 1 marked the third death anniversary of the iconic former president, whose daughter, Kris, was once married to Yap. The union bore a child in Baby James Yap.

Yap pumped in 18 points in the first half alone as he led the reigning Commissioner’s Cup champions back into the series, which the Llamados still trail 2-3. Game Six is set Friday also at the Big Dome.

B-Meg coach Tim Cone said Wednesday night’s win wouldn’t be possible without Yap’s heroics.

“This is all about James. He carried us on his massive shoulders,” said the American mentor.

The native of Escalante, Negros Occidental shot 13-of-23 from the field, was perfect from the free throw area, and had a pair of rebounds and assists.

It was the first time Yap reached the 30-point plateau since coming up with the same number of points during Game Five of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

Big Game James delivers to the Llamados once again! It's hard for him to average a lot of points since their import is always the one carrying the scoring load. Hope he can sustain his production in the following game!
